DataWorks:Specify the category and sensitivity level of sensitive data

Last Updated:Jul 24, 2025

DataWorks allows you to specify the category and sensitivity level of sensitive data based on the data value, content sensitivity, impacts, and distribution scope. The data management principles and data development requirements vary based on the data sensitivity level. This topic describes how to specify the category and sensitivity level of data.

Go to the Data classification and level page

  1. Go to the DataStudio page.

Log on to the DataWorks console. In the top navigation bar, select the desired region. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Data Development and O&M > Data Development. On the page that appears, select the desired workspace from the drop-down list and click Go to Data Development.

  2. Click the 图标 icon in the upper-left corner. Then, choose All Products > Data Governance > Data Security Guard. On the page that appears, click Try Now to go to the Data Security Guard page.

    Note
    • If your Alibaba Cloud account is granted the required permissions, you can directly access the homepage of Data Security Guard.

    • If your Alibaba Cloud account is not granted the required permissions, you are redirected to the authorization page of Data Security Guard. You can use the features of Data Security Guard only after your Alibaba Cloud account is granted the required permissions.

  1. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Rule Change > Data classification and level.

Specify the category and sensitivity level of data

Data Security Guard provides a built-in template that contains four data sensitivity levels and four data categories that are ready for use.

  • Data sensitivity levels: used to define the sensitivity level of data. A larger value specifies a higher data sensitivity level.

  • Data categories: used to provide various sensitive field types with specific sensitivity levels. The sensitive field types are used to determine whether your data is sensitive and the sensitivity level of your data.

If the data categories and data sensitivity levels in the template cannot meet your business requirements, you can configure custom data categories and data sensitivity levels based on your business requirements. DataWorks allows you to modify the data categories and data sensitivity levels in the built-in template or configure custom data categories and data sensitivity levels based on your business requirements. You can configure up to 10 data sensitivity levels. You can add categories or add subcategories to an existing category. You can also specify the sensitive field types that you want to include in a category based on your business requirements.

Note

If you want to delete an unnecessary data category or data sensitivity level, you must delete all sensitive field types that are associated with the data category or data sensitivity level first. For information about how to delete a sensitive field type, see Manage sensitive data identification rules.

What to do next

After the configuration of data categories or data sensitivity levels is complete, you can go to the Sensitive data identification page to configure sensitive field types and sensitive data identification rules. Sensitive field types are categorized into the related data categories and data sensitivity levels based on conditions such as the purpose and source of data. You can use sensitive field types to identify sensitive data that has different categories and sensitivity levels. For more information, see Configure a sensitive data identification rule.
